The quality of the teaching and materials are generally good. There were a couple of topics where the lectures could have been filled with more examples in order to clarify. The online portal is good although it's not entirely clear how you make contact with an actual person to clarify points of law or obtain feedback. The Mock exams were good and for the most part a true reflection of the actual SQE1 exam.

I took the BARBRI SQE1 preparation course as a qualified lawyer from a civil law jurisdiction, with no prior background in the common law system and not being a native English speaker. I passed the SQE1 on my first attempt, and overall, I can say the course is well-structured and provides a solid foundation for exam preparation. I prepared exclusively using BARBRI materials — I didn’t use any external resources or supplementary textbooks. The course was comprehensive enough to cover the necessary content, and with consistent study, it’s absolutely possible to pass relying solely on what’s provided. The course materials cover a vast amount of content, and the overall structure is helpful. However, the BARBRI app and website interface definitely require improvement. They are not very user-friendly, and I often experienced issues with video playback, window scaling, and general issues with saving of progress. These technical issues made studying less convenient than it could have been. The quality of content delivery also varied — while some lecturers explained the material clearly, others were less effective, making it harder to follow and understand. Additionally, there were quite a few small but important mistakes across the printed materials, test questions, and even in the video lectures. It’s essential to stay alert, cross-check information, and keep in mind that not all content is promptly updated in line with legislative changes. One of the real highlights was the Land Law & Practice lecturer — an engaging and positive speaker who explained complex topics with clarity, humor, and enthusiasm. The Criminal Law lecturer also stood out for her detailed responses to questions and willingness to provide extra context beyond the core materials, which was incredibly helpful. I didn’t make use of the psychological support or training coach services included in the course, as I didn’t find them necessary for myself. However, I would have appreciated the opportunity to ask legal questions directly during short one-on-one sessions, similar to those offered by the coach. The current system of submitting questions in writing can be frustrating — occasionally, the person responding didn’t fully understand the question or missed it entirely, leading to delays and the need to rewrite the same query multiple times. Despite these shortcomings, I would definitely recommend the course and BARBRI as a provider — especially for international lawyers who are preparing for the SQE1. With discipline, critical thinking, and some extra effort to verify materials, the course offers strong support on the way to passing the exam.

Solid course. I’d recommend it. However, be aware of mistakes in the materials. Also, understand that BARBRI does not cover 100% of what you could be tested on. The strategy is to make sure you know the most testable material well. I preferred thus approach because the goal is simply to pass, not to know every little bit of UK law. Yet, the BARBRI course still contains an unfathomable amount of information. So, anything more would not have been bearable. Just be aware that multiple exam questions pop up that you’ll have no real clue about because the course did not cover it. That’s OK. I don’t consider it to be a negative point against BARBRI unless the tested law is actually one of the most testable. The PSP is great for keeping you on track with your studies, especially as a busy working professional.

I am a foreign-qualified lawyer, and I found Barbri to be a good provider for SQE preparation. I scored in the top quintile for both FLKs. Barbri’s videos and books are well-structured, easy to understand, and cover more than enough SQE topics. However, one downside is that their mocks and MCQs are easy and do not accurately reflect the difficulty of the real exam. As a result, I had to purchase additional mocks from other providers. Additionally, just before the exam, Barbri offered new mocks that were supposedly closer to the real exam's difficulty, but at an extra cost of £700. This felt expensive, yet I felt pressured to purchase them based on their claims. This aspect of their approach was disappointing.
