Mountainspringsprep4.0Established in 2004, Mountain Springs Preparatory Academy (MSPA) is a boarding school that specializes in transition, step-down and practice. We are specifically designed to help students who are stepping down from a higher level of care (i.e. residential treatment, therapeutic boarding school or wilderness program) to prepare for their next step in life. We utilize a solution-focused model that allows students the opportunity to make choices (within a safe environment) and assess how much the students have internalized the skills they have learned in their prior treatment. Rather than using behavioral consequences with the students, our mentors utilize supportive relationships as the agent for encouraging change. MSPA provides many of the components of a traditional boarding school, including a full-range of academic classes, college prep and ACT/SAT test prep, etc. but in addition provides the expertise to work specifically with the niche of students transitioning from higher levels of care. Our staff and administration are experienced in working with students who have a history of academic, behavioral and substance abuse issues. We provide a full-range of wrap around services to support students who are transitioning from highly structured environments to be able to practice their skills and learning while exposing them to increasing levels of freedom and independence.

MSPA was wonderful! Our daughter was able to practice the skills she learned at her prior placement and to continue to develop social/emotional maturity in a controlled setting. The Bridge program is fantastic! She was able to begin learning how to live independently, how to budget, meal prep, etc. She also made incredible friendships that continue today! MSPA was truly a fabulous experience for her as well as our entire family!

I am deeply disappointed by our family's experience with Mountain Springs Preparatory Academy. As a parent, I trusted the school to provide my child with an environment where they would be treated with dignity, patience, and basic respect. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. What concerns me most is not simply that problems arose, because challenges can happen at any school. It was the way those problems were handled. When my child needed understanding and support, I felt their concerns were minimized rather than genuinely heard. Attempts to raise concerns and advocate for my child left me feeling dismissed and increasingly frustrated. Instead of feeling like the school and our family were working together, I often felt as though I had to fight simply to have my child's experience taken seriously. The impact on my child was painful to watch. No parent should have to see their child lose confidence or feel unwelcome in a place where they are supposed to be learning and growing. I expected much better communication, compassion, and accountability from a school entrusted with the well-being of young people. I don't write negative reviews lightly, and I sincerely hoped our experience could have been resolved differently. Unfortunately, I came away deeply disappointed in how our child was treated. I would strongly encourage prospective parents to ask detailed questions about how the school responds when a student is struggling, how complaints are addressed, and what accountability exists.

Great school for children transitioning back to home/college after a period of intense treatment (wilderness therapy). Our son was able to finish high school and smoothly go into freshman year of college. The bridge program, independent living is a gem. Prepares the children for next steps in their route toward being young independent adults. The counselors and teachers are extremely supportive, patient humans. They attend to those children like they are their own. Ariel, is the best in getting them ready for collage applications! She helped our son get into the Honors college of his choice. All in all this school is the best for a child that needs extra help maneuvering changes between teenage years and becoming a responsible young adult. Thank you Mountain Springs! We are forever grateful!
