One of the worst chain of hotels to stay at!!! For one the front desk customer service are not friendly if your a sert color. Especially when they tell you that you have to pay a $200 deposit up front after you have already paid for reservation online(Clarion Expo in Kalamazoo,MI 49001). Thats ludicrous, and that should tell you right off the back what can of stay you will have there. It is a shame because they do have an award winning breakfast which is the best in town!!!

Tried to modify a reservation (Pineville/Ballantyne…
I booked a stay (Pineville/Ballantyne NC). I went to modify my reservation prior to the deadline. I was told that my original rate would not be honored. I was not looking for the average rate (and average rate was less than my Saturday/Sunday rates) as I realize each night have different rates, all I wanted was the same rate for the nights I was continuing my stay, which of course are higher for the weekend. I was told no because the rates went up. I called Choice Customer service, and was again told that the rates went up so even though I was keeping two of the nights, I would have to pay the new rates. I challenged that and she said it's up to the individual hotel. I asked for a supervisor and she said they would tell me the same. If there was a disclosure that told me this at time of booking, it may be different but nothing disclosed this. Bad service, bad policies and it's obvious that Choice does not care. While I realize they could care less if they lost my business, they have. And the funny thing is that now they get zero dollars vs. honoring my original stay (which was only a couple of days away and still within my cancel period). Hmmmmmm would it have been better for you to receive $325 (honoring our agreement) or what you're earning now which is $0. After talking to Customer Service, I'm sure Pineville/Ballantyne NC is no different from any location and if this is how business is done, we have no problems deleting Choice Hotels from our possible stay list as there are many other hotel options out there!

Unjusted Eviction
Choice Hotel The manager for Suburban Studio in Auburn Hills is making your name looks bad. My husband and I stayed at this Suburban Studios Auburn Hills location for three weeks without causing a single issue. On July 9, 2026, we were suddenly told to pack our bags and leave immediately because I had supposedly been placed on a "Do Not Rent" (DNR) list due to a night staff complaint.
This accusation is completely impossible: I work nights from 6:00 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. I wasn't even on the property when these alleged incidents occurred! When we demanded an explanation or proof, nobody could give us a straight answer. The manager, Junior, claimed he would "look into it," yet they still forced us out on the spot with zero warning or a proper investigation. It was incredibly humiliating, stressful, and unprofessional.
To make matters worse, the property itself is terrible:
-
Housekeeping is a joke: They do nothing but make the bed and swap towels. The rest of the cleaning is left up to you.
-
Filthy conditions: We saw roaches crawling up the walls, and the hallways constantly smell awful and are littered with trash and debris.
-
Safety concerns: There are always people loitering outside, and the police were regularly called to the property to evict people from the building for what the night staff were saying.
-
Being blindsided and kicked out over an unverified, logically impossible lie after being paying guests for three weeks is unacceptable. Junior is completely incompetent as a manager. Even if they cleared my name and begged us to return, hell no. Save yourself the stress and stay anywhere else.

Quality Inn - Ithaca NY
This was at the Quality Inn on Elmira Road in Ithaca NY.
My family of 4 arrived late the first night of a planned 3 night stay. I paid in advance before seeing the room. Once in the room I quickly realized my party of 3 adults + 1 child could not stay in the tiny room or sleep in the tiny beds (secondary but worth noting the general condition and cleanliness of the room, which was poor). I made a reasonable request of staff and management to refund me the last 2 nights of my stay, as I had to move my family to another hotel. I was told that because I paid up front in cash, the Choice system would not allow a refund, it was out of their hands. I called Choice customer service, they said it was the decision of the owners of that location, and Choice could not provide any assistance. I pleaded with hotel management for some resolution - they offered nothing. I asked management to consult with the owner - the owner said no refund to be provided. I have travelled a fair bit - this is the worst hotel experience I have encountered - no effort at all was made by hotel staff/management to even find a middle ground to help me in this situation - nothing was offered. I don't know who to be most disappointed with - the owner/management who clearly have no interest in customer relationships, or the Choice customer service representative who said in a follow up email that "customer satisfaction is a priority for us" - the words don't match the actions.

If I stayed at this hotel for months…
If I stayed at this hotel for months upon months after moving out of my former house..and we NEVER HAD A PROBLEM...what is the problem now? It's because somebody there want it to be a problem with me. Is it because the lady in the kitchen turned up the toaster then she looked at me mad when I didn't notice it was turned up and the smoke alarm went off..is it because I ignored the knocks on the door from the front desk because they were trying to give me something another customer wanted my baby to have..that is inappropriate..because I did not want it.. also my baby has an emotional support dog because she has panic attacks ..its never been a problem before.. he doesn't even bark inside..they telling me today my baby left trash everywhere which i know is a lie because I take 2 hours each morning cleaning up behind her when I stayed here. GET BIGGER TRASH CANS..where else am I supposed to put the trash .. And take accountability and stop blaming other people for things either out of people's control or things that could have been solved the same day. I do not have time for the behavior. LIKE I SAID. if we haven't had a problem for monthssssss on monthssssss ...never had a cleaning problem..never had a esa dog problem..but you want to have a problem with me today..no mam. Absolutely not. Could have came to me direct day of if we have a problem.. cause I'm going to speak up for mine everytime..and let's fix the problem and address it right then.. mind you..any other hotel I've stayed at never have a problem with me. BECAUSE THEY KNOW I CLEAN UP. SO WHATEVER PROBLEMS Y'ALL HAVE IS A PERSONAL PROBLEM... that your going to have to fix yourself.

If not fot the clerk, I'd give this place -2!
First off, I have to say that the front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful. It was quite clean, as hotels go. My socks were not totally disgusting after walking around the room.
We booked the " handicapped accessible room with a roll in shower" as I'm in a wheelchair with limited .mobility. At first glance the room was acceptable. The bathroom door was not enlarged tp ADA standards but workable. When I tried to transfer to the toilet the safety bar swung away completely. I nearly fell. The bar had been rigged to look good but was actually dangerous.
The roll in shower was rigged by attaching a 5 inch piece of SLICK material to the lip of the shower. When exiting the shower anyone would have to step 6inches away from the shower or risk a dangerous fall. The shower itself was very slick as well. There was ONE safety bar. It was an upright 28 in bar that was outside of the shower curtain. There was a hand held shower but it Wes attached up on the 7ft high shower spicket with no way to use it as a handheld. There had been a slider bar but the attachment had been removed. A shower chair was provided with a slot to hold the shower, but the hose was not long enough to connect with the chair.
The towel rack and light switch were both over my head when I was standing. I'm 5ft tall.
We checked in at about 6pm. The next day we returned at about 2 to a room that hadn't been touched. Figured it was a miscommunication. My husband went to the front desk to request towels. (We had to use them all to clean up th water that had floooded the bathroom from the shower. ) The housecleaning supervisor was standing right there and said he'd take care of it. The desk clerk was on the phone and dealing with reservations. By 7pm there were still no towels. The clerk was the only person to be found. Everyone had left early because it was Friday. She found us a couple.
The next day we left at about 9am. Spoke to the housekeeping staff. Returned at about 2. The room still had not been touched. Thee clerk came to pick up the trash and to take away 2 days worth of wet towels. He was able to find 1 towel. The staff had left all the towels in the dryer.
Breakfast was a joke. The coffee was almost see-through. The sausage,no bacon, looked to be left from the day before. There was a clean waffle maker but otherwise it was cold cereal and milk. Eggs did come out as we were about to leave. They looked and tasted like powdered. I served 8 years in the USAF. Trust me, I know powdered eggs.
If we had not been in an emergency situation we surely would've left after 10 minutes. But there we were and NO rooms available within 40 miles. There was a 3 day festival going on.

3 of 5 rooms had issues
We had a party of 12 with 5 rooms booked at the Middlesburgh Ohio Comfort Inn. We are Choice Hotel members but haven't stayed in a while and decided to try again. After waiting half an hour to check in,
One room reeked of cigarette smoke even though signs say 100% smoke free so we had to wait in line again. The second room had a broken hair dryer and a third room had NO HOT water!! Vinyl Floors in the hotel were so dirty our feet were sticking, carpets were old and trash cans overflowing, elevator buttons didn't light up, when we asked for fresh towels they only had one. Juice machine at breakfast was broken, coffee and syrup ran out. Only fruit was old apples. Lobby bathroom had broken door handles and locks. After trying to return to your brand our whole group was extremely disappointed With only a one person staff it was difficult to have issues resolved
Extremely disappointed

I have never had such an awful…
I have never had such an awful experience with a hotel company and its customer service in my life.
A while back, I stayed at a Choice Hotel in Sandusky, and it was absolutely disgusting. The first room they put me in reeked of mold. They moved me to a second room, which smelled slightly better, but it was still filthy. There were broken floor tiles, mold and mildew in the shower, black hairs everywhere, a broken sink, and a hair dryer that didn't even work. The list of problems could go on and on.
I complained at the time, and to make things right, Choice Hotels awarded me 20,000 points and encouraged me to give them another try in the future. At no point was I told these points would expire.
Now, when I finally decided to use those points and give Choice another chance at a different location, I discovered the points are gone. Customer service is telling me they expired and that my only option is to PURCHASE them back.
Why on earth would I spend my own money to buy back points that were given to me as compensation for an absolutely horrible experience? That makes no sense whatsoever.
What's even more frustrating is that they keep insisting they "can't" manually issue points, despite the fact that they did exactly that the first time to make the situation right. Now that I've been wronged a second time, they're refusing to do anything except ask me for more money.
Between the disgusting hotel conditions and the terrible customer service, I can honestly say I will never stay at another Choice Hotel again. This company does not stand behind its customers, does not properly communicate important information, and clearly has no interest in making things right when they fail their guests.
One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.
