Thank you for your feedback, Ray and Tish. While we do not guarantee a certain taste, these are high-performance filters and should noticeably improve the taste of your tap water.
1. Confirm your filter is securely attached to the upper reservoir, so that unfiltered water is not leaking into the lower chamber.
2. Soak the filter for 4 to 6 hours in cold or room temperature water, making sure it is fully submerged.
3. Re-prime the filter using the priming bag following the extended soak. The extra soak and prime will allow water to flush the filter and get rid of any residual taste.
Our filter's performance results are to 100 gallons, so we recommend replacement after 100 gallons of use. People drink water at different rates, so they reach the 100 gallon mark at different times.

You can also run the calculations yourself; the top reservoir is ½ gallon when completely full. If you fill it twice each day, you'll filter 100 gallons in 100 days, or around 3 months.
*If your tap water is heavily contaminated (most likely if you live in a large or older city), your filter must work harder to keep your water clean, which may decrease the life of the filter.
