Couchsurfing is STILL great ! YES they do charge money now, YES it can be seen as a shame.. but you have to understand that they’ve been hit really hard during Covid. Maintaining a community like this isn’t cheap, and they don’t have any ads. So guys keep in mind that it’s a small fee for all what’s provided. For the equivalent of 2 months of Netflix subscription you can meet amazing people and have life-changing experience when travelling. They shouldn’t have charged the hosts though - this is a BIG mistake of them, really hope it won’t totally kill the community as there is amazing people out there!

Stolen money from me even after I tried to stop them by sending emails saying I don’t not have access to the account, I have adhd and struggle with computers and they still took money from me. Absolute disgusting ethics of a company originally designed to help homeless people now it’s creating homelessness

Fell for the same trap as most other people. Added card details without realising I would be charged 51 pounds for lifetime verification. This is in contrast to other websites where ID verification can be done with a debit card without charge. Really disappointing.

After using the site for a year (and paying for it), the company deactivated my account out of the blue as I had used an account with a different email address previously. They were aware of this a year earlier when they mistakenly charged me twice for both accounts. Now they have stopped responding - terrible customer experience.

Have been scammed like many others during the "account verification" process. They are totally obscure. I thought they would take my bank account IBAN as a simple way to certify my identity. Instead, they charged me 56€ but at no time declared I would pay this amount. They do not refund. TOTAL SCAM! And since Covid, completely useless. Very hard to find hosts!

I recommend everyone to bojkot couchsurfing. They asked me to verify my account using my debit card. So I did, but nothing happened. So I tried verifying my account again. After that I notiser that they had charged me 120 dollars for a lifetime verification. That was not something they were at all clear about. Plus that I got charged twice. No refunds they say and after that they stopped responding to my email.
