I worked with Jen and Freddie during my application process and they made it so much more manageable. They answered all of my questions, communicated regularly, and told me exactly what documentation was required. They dealt directly with my caseworker and saved me a LOT of frustration. Is the service pricey? Yes, but less than a lawyer and SO worth it.

A great service and a great team.
Great communication and service. Jennifer and Freddy checked in regularly regarding requests, deadlines, and updates. Communication extended to phone conversations in lieu of emails as needs required. From beginning to end, there was no change in their engagement with us. They truly cared about our situation and were great advocates. I only wish I knew about the service earlier. Jennifer explained everything in the beginning and I was really able to manage my expectations. They are a great team and I would highly recomemnd them as well as Elder Care Resource Planning to those in similar situations. Cant say thank you enough!

Knowledgeable, Thorough, and Helpful
Everyone I worked with was responsive to my needs and questions. My ongoing consultant was always available for a video conference when necessary. Applying for Medicaid is a complicated task that requires LOTS of documentation. I'm glad Eldercare was there to keep it organized and then fill out the final application.

Excellent guides through a torturous process
When I realized that my father's health was declining to a point where he needed round-the-clock care, I was in that depressing, stressful bind that so many care-takers find themselves in - my dad didn't have enough of his own money to pay for a place for more than a year, I certainly couldn't afford one, and so we were staring down the barrel of applying for Social Security. Just reading through the website was enough to give me a migraine, so I turned instead to Eldercare Resource Planning, and I am SO GRATEFUL that I did. First I met with Michael Guerrero, who did a great job telling me how to get all the information that I needed, then reviewed it and gave me an easy to understand plan of action for how to get my father's affairs in order prior to the application (for a flat, VERY reasonable fee for this kind of expertise). If you feel confident in yourself, you can stop there - at no point did I feel pressured to take the next step and have this organization actually do the application for me. But I did, and that was an absolute lifesaver. For the next step in the process - getting all of the documentation together for the application - I worked with Jennifer Williams, whose patience, humor, and organizational skills made the process as painless as possible by telling me exactly what forms I needed from which companies. After the application was submitted,
Freddy Melgarejo was added to the team, whose dogged persistence, quick responsiveness, and eye for detail saved the day(s) after not one but TWO aggravating mistakes on the part of the SSA and my father's care facility threatened to derail his application. The entire process goes at your own pace, with the facilitators available to help you every step of the way, and the flat fee covers EVERYTHING from start to finish - no surprise bills or surcharges along the way. I was very impressed by everyone's competence and responsiveness, and consider their efforts worth EVERY PENNY. My only regret is that I couldn't bring them a cake or donuts when the application was finally approved because that certainly merited a party with balloons.

We’re so glad that Michael, Jennifer, and Freddy were able to support you every step of the way. Your kind words about their patience, persistence, and guidance will mean a great deal to them.
Most importantly, we’re thrilled that your father’s application was successfully approved. That is always the goal, and we’re honored to have been part of that journey with you.
And while we may have missed out on the cake and donuts, your thoughtful review is more than enough of a celebration for us.
Wishing you and your family all the very best.

Exceptional Guidance with Genuine Care
My experience with Eldercare Resource Planning and Michael Guerrero has been outstanding. As someone with physical challenges, navigating estate planning, Medicaid, and long-term care can feel overwhelming, but Michael made the entire process clear and manageable.
He is knowledgeable, kind, and always responsive; even after our initial consultation. He took the time to explain each step clearly and made what could have been an overwhelming process feel manageable. This has truly been one of the best professional experiences I’ve had. Highly recommend.

After my initial consultation with ECR…
After my initial consultation with ECR we felt hopeful for the prospect that our elderly parents receiving help.
However, I really wish that ECR had forewarned me that essentially all hands were tied because of the State where my parents reside.
Had we known, we would not be out more money that we don’t have.
We felt unsupported and taken advantage of by another company exploiting their clients’ situation for money.

Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the frustration you are experiencing. Navigating the Medicaid landscape is incredibly complex, and we understand how disheartening it feels to face state-imposed hurdles when seeking care for loved ones.
In Maryland, many families face a 1–8 year waiting list for certain home care waivers, which is why it often feels like "hands are tied." Our goal is to provide a roadmap to navigate these delays. Regarding the home, the Child Caregiver Exemption is a powerful tool to protect equity from Estate Recovery, but the state’s requirements are very strict—typically requiring documented proof that the care provided directly prevented a move to a facility for at least two years.
We want to make sure you have immediate options. In Maryland, the "Community First Choice" (CFC) program has no waiting list and can often provide the financial support needed for home-based care right now.
We have sent you an email to schedule a complimentary follow-up with our leadership team. We would like to help you explore CFC and ensure you have the specific documentation needed to protect your family's home under the Caregiver Exemption.
