Initially delighted - until I found out what I actually got for my money! 😡
Excellent selection of books, but very difficult to find out what the fair usage limits are until you hit them! And I don’t actually think they’re fair at all, tbh! 😡
I subscribed on 30th March, having been a satisfied member of Scribd in the past. Not knowing what the limits were, I ‘flicked through’ several books (as I would do in an actual bookshop) to decide which ones I wanted to read… and now, only 4 days later, I’ve been locked out of most of the books I was interested in!
According to my account history I have ‘read’ 19 previews (the sort of thing you can do endlessly for free, on Amazon and Kindle). And I have skim-read a total of 5 books, before deciding which one I wanted to read properly. And now, on the 4th of April, most of the books I’ve saved to read have been ‘locked’ until 1st May! 😡
£10.99 for that, then locked out for the next 26 days? What a joke! 😡

Hello, Heather!
We apologize for any confusion! There are various factors that dictate your content availability, such as conditions regarding the terms we have with our publishing partners, cost and popularity, and your personal content consumption level.
Based on these factors, you’ll occasionally see that select ebooks and audiobooks will not be immediately available to you, but your catalog will refresh each month on a date determined by the start of your subscription. In the meantime, we mark these titles with the “Available Soon” banner.
For more information, we invite you to view this support article: http://bit.ly/2PY9v6I You can check out Section 3 of our Subscriber Agreement here: http://bit.ly/2R4PKLa
We hope this helps. Thanks!

Opaque Process, Lacks Important Features
I don't "do" audiobooks -- just eBooks -- so maybe I should consider myself fortunate.
I used Scribd for over a year, but eventually left because I could never figure out the rules. I kept having access to books I was reading cut off for 7 -10 days. This "feature" seems to be a common complaint in reviews going back quite a while. It almost acts like some kind of accounting problem regarding access to the books, but one that has never been fully explained.
Is the problem that any book in my Saved List counts as being active -- whether I'm reading it or not? If that's the case, then Everand needs give users a "Wish List" when you can put titles with no penalties. They can then be activated when needed. Likewise, How about a "Titles Read" list so you can keep track of things -- again, with no penalty.
Now, maybe I've got this wrong, but I've never received a satisfactory answer from Everand.
Meanwhile, I'm going to create those two lists in Evernote, so I can access them on my computers and my mobile devices.
Update: Not satisfied with the response.
The basic question remains regarding whether or not the books in my "Saved List" count as active, even it I haven't downloaded them.
My workaround is to built two tables in an Evernote note. I can copy and paste the title into the "Everand Wish List" and then use it as a link to get to that title in Everand. When I have read the book, I can just cut and paste that title into the "Everand Books Read" table.
I'm not sure why a user would have to come up with a hack to keep track of books, and I'm still not sure if having only one book at a time in my list will stop the surprise ambushes. The suggestion of Everand that I just read another book is pretty cheeky. The reason I was reading THAT book in the first place was because I wanted to read THAT book.
This may be water under the bridge be cause I just cancelled the my account a few hours after re-opening it.
I got the cancellation notice ("Your subscription has been cancelled effective April 3, 2024") in an email at 18:57. Unsurprisingly, I got an email at 19:03 stating "To proceed with changes to your account, we need to set up two-factor authentication. Please confirm your identity by clicking the link below."
'Nuff said. I'd rather not submit a ticket because that's just more of the same stuff. They know how to get in touch with me.
Update #2:
I'm not responding in Everand's ticket system because they typically don't answer direct questions in through the system. If the problem isn't discussed in their FAQs, they just sort-of indicate that they'll pass the issue along to someone, and that's the last you ever hear about it.
As if things weren't already pretty opaque, they have now decided that we all need Multifactor Authentication (MFA). For every device you have. Every time you attempt to log on. Email is the only option you have for the access code. It seems to take between 2 and 12 minutes to get the code. The bonus feature is that the code may or may not work. just to make things more interesting, a second email might show up -- for no apparent reason -- and that email's code may or may not work.
Imagine picking up a physical book that you want to read, and having to wait between 2 and 12 minutes just to open the cover.
Libby does not require this.
Kindle doesn't require this.
I keep trying to like Everand, but they keep adding more complications and kluges, don't give you real choices, have a ticket system which isn't really effective beyond the FAQ level, and are non-responsive to direct questions, preferring to shunt you off to the ineffective ticket system.
To get a feeling of how Everand "deals" with problems, read all the reviews and then look at the Everand responses to each. It looks like a response from a bot stuck in the "rubber stamp" mode.
Consumer Alert: DO NOT GET THE ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION.

Almost worthless
This once-great app (when it was Scribd) has become trash. Almost no audiobooks that I want to listen to are available anymore. I've seen too many replies to complaints like mine from the company, saying something like, "Occasionally some books may be temporarily unavailable..." That is total baloney. I will go a month without downloading anything, and when I do a search of popular authors, exactly zero books are available.
I realize that streaming companies deal with licensing issues, etc. from publishers. I would even be willing to pay more upfront for the service if audiobooks were actually available. But this company isn't honest about it. I have been on Scribed for years, but that app is no more. There is almost nothing worthwhile on Everand. I won't be renewing my yearly subscription.

Not happy to have so little available…
Not happy to have so little available content. 😕
Very disappointing!
Feel it is a waste of money. You need to have more content available.
There is frequent buffering happening and the audiobook abruptly cuts off.

Goodbye and good riddance
So after I had a response here on trustpilot from Everand, I used the link to look at other available audio books published by Scribd, 3 came up on the search option, yes 3. I then waited until the monthly payment was taken and all the books I could wish for appeared as available, over the next week or so the choice was reduced again, I had listened to two books 11 pages of one and 16 of another, had a break of a few days and when I went back to continue listening both were unavailable saying available soon, so not only does Everand limit after a week or so, they also block the customer from continuing to listen to the books already started, (Not previewed) so I cancelled, thankfully I did not sign up for a years subscription because I would have been well and truly had. Thankfully I have found my favourite authors on line on their own websites and quite reasonable prices too. Also many audio books are available for free on Youtube. Goodbye and good riddance, and no I do not want any reply from you, your actions speak loud enough.

Was a loyal Scrbd subscriber
Was a loyal Scrbd subscriber, so have annual membership. WHAT a WASTE of MONEY. I have attempted to listen to 2 books, but when I start book it has multiple audios going. I thought, ok I can handle the intro details....but now it is in the middle of the book. So half way through book, even restarting, reopening, pausing ( multiple voices still there) and now I am writing this review. Save your money and do not pay for this. I have 10 months left on my annual subscription......There goes $120 +

Used to be decent, now I wouldn't recommend
Everand has always been a somewhat decent place to listen to audiobooks - especially the longer book series as usually I can get through 4/5 books before the series becomes unavailable. I was happy with this. This time, however, I read 1 book in my series and then it became unavailable again and I've got to wait almost 3 weeks for it to become available again.
Very frustrated with this. I understood the Everand algorithm before getting my subscription, but I expect to be able to read more than 1 book in a series per month.
EDIT: This month I managed to listen to 2.5 books before my entire saved list became unavailable. What a joke. The only titles left available for me are the poorly written, bottom of the barrel drivel that is rubbish. I've just cancelled my subscription because this is horrendous.

Hey Shannon, we appreciate your feedback. For certain ebooks and audiobooks, there are monthly limits. One benefit of our diverse library is that we will always have something you can read in the meantime. Your subscription will unlock access to a selection of original titles published by Everand, magazines, articles, and unlimited podcasts.
