While I loved the van that we rented and the owners were fantastic, I was very frustrated with the GoCamp part of the experience. We had our reservation cancelled twice. The second time we were 3-hours into our 6-hour drive to pick up the van and it caused a lot of stress. Also, we were sent to the wrong address to pick up the van and the description of the van was not correct.

Dissatisfied with the Private Owners I rented from more than GoCamp as a service, but- this van was not in a good condition to be rented out and GoCamp should ensure that every van owner is more responsible than this. We had problems w battery drain (bad alternator so it never charged), leaky sun roof (which could not be resolved by us thru a whole night of rain), & a toilet that wouldn't flush. I really believe it all could have been avoided had the owner taken better care & interest in the proper operations of their van. Every day we spent time troubleshooting different problems, some safety issues that could cause serious damage to property, some corners cut/lack of proper solutions starting with all the galley drawers opening & slamming on our initial 4 hr drive to Moab. It makes for distracting noise/action while we adjust to navigating a new vehicle.. oh, but also add in the constant whistle of the sunroof.. We paid a lot of money to rent this van as a luxury w its modernizations & amenities but it ended up being a real drag & wasted time/money on our trip. I hope the owners are able to get Maisey in the proper shape before renting her out again, if not maybe they provide a bit more transparency of van's actual condition. All the unexpected issues cost us a lot of time, hassle, energy & stress on our what was supposed to be carefree & fun. Thanks for your understanding.

Over a period of months communicating with various entities, it was hard to keep track of which group or organization I was communicating with. The staff were pretty responsive, but I never felt like any question I asked was completely answered. Even a few days before the trip, I was still piecing parts of the requirements and prep work together. The rental experience was a whole 'nother story. We spent a fortune on those three days and next time I'd just get a hotel room, rent a Vrbo or quite honestly do anything but this.

Gocamp is a middleman, similar to airbnb, between renters and van owners. I was required for damage that occurred outside of my rental period. This cost me several hundreds of dollars. However, gocamp decided to believe the van owner as they have a vested interest to have continued business with the owner. As opposed to the renter, who, and they are right about this, will bring them no further business as I will never be using them again. I highly recommend going to a different rental agency. And take detailed videos of before and after your rental, I’ll admit not doing this was my own fault. Best of luck in your overlanding adventures.

Go camp had almost no involvement with the booking - booked through them and they just passed us straight to the van owners - and yet they still charge significant fees that are not clear when you see the price of the vehicles. They are operation like AirB&B with numerous non obvious charges upfront. On a positive their emails were friendly and courteous. They allow the van owners to charge whatever 'prep' fee they want. This is supposed to cover the van cleaning etc, but of course not only do you have to hand the van back clean and prepped for the next user, but ours wasn't and there was no way to reclaim the prep fee. The insurance they insist on is a joke. You have to get it through them and it specifically says this is not the primary insurance policy and if there were to be a claim then you should make it through your own car insurance. And for $350 for a week I'd expect a little more than that. By choice I wouldn't use again as they added no value but cost me hundreds of dollars.

The owner was kind and flexible. Communication was easy and the pick-up/drop-off went smoothly. The van itself was just a hollowed out space with some storage and a basic sleeping area. No insulation or plumbing (note that it wasn’t marketed as having plumbing, but I did expect insulation). “Potable” water jugs were filled with brown sedimented water. Knowing what I know now, I would have saved the money and slept in my outback for a similar but cheaper experience.

Poor communication leading up to rental. Sent us out without a drain hose for the gray water so we had to purchase one out on the road - sent the receipt and included hose on return but still haven't heard about a reimbursement. Upon return our main contact wasn't available and told us to speak to another person who also wasn't available - left keys with a receptionist without any feedback, paperwork or closure. Just bad service .... we really enjoyed traveling in the van, but that is not because we got good service from GoCamp.
