Reply from Great Resumes FastJun 19, 2025
I want to share the complete story of this project so potential clients can understand how we handle service delivery, even when projects take unexpected turns.
How This Project Unfolded
April 19th: We delivered the professionally written resume we had contracted for, targeting the Government Affairs position based on the job posting this client had provided during our consultation.
May 1st: The client reached out to tell me the resume looked good and that no edits were needed. However, he had decided to completely change career directions and now wanted to pursue an Assistant City Manager role instead. He provided a new job posting for this entirely different target. This was outside our scope and terms and conditions for the project. We write a single resume for a target role based on the client's intended job target. After approving of the first resume, he then changed directions and asked for a second resume. This would normally incur a rebranding fee for a second resume.
This career pivot would require additional time since it represented a significant shift from what we had discussed in our original consultation. Despite this being well beyond our contracted scope, his writer decided to move forward with the rebrand because he seemed satisfied with our work and she wanted to help him succeed.
May 9th: She delivered the completely rebranded resume, essentially a second professionally written resume targeting public sector management rather than government affairs.
May 15th: The client said he was happy with this new version and asked for the ATS-optimized format.
May 16th: Even though it was a Friday, the writer committed to getting him everything over the weekend to meet his timeline.
May 18th: His writer delivered the ATS-optimized version as promised.
May 20th: When he mentioned not receiving the files, the writer immediately resent everything. Then he asked which version we had created the ATS format for, and requested that we also create an ATS-optimized version of the original resume.
At this point, his writer realized the client was essentially asking for two complete resume packages - the original Government Affairs resume with ATS optimization, plus the rebranded Assistant City Manager resume with ATS optimization.
His writer explained that she is approved to work on a single version per project, and while she was happy to ensure he had access to both versions she had created, she couldn't provide ATS optimization for both without expanding the project scope. We let him know we would be happy to create the second ATS-optimized version for an additional fee. This is when the client became angry and complained.
Looking back at this timeline, we provided far more than what we originally contracted for. This client received two professionally written resumes, expedited weekend delivery, a 4-business-day turnaround that included a consultation outside our normal business hours, and ATS optimization - all while accommodating a complete career direction change mid-project.
We believe the work quality and extra value we provided speaks to our commitment to client success and that this one star rating is an unfair reflection of the quality of the project and instead retribution for not delivering additional work for free.
