Hi Shutonna, I'm Jaime, co-founder of OCHO, and I'm sorry this has felt confusing and unfair. Our mission is to make insurance more affordable and fit real life, so I'd like to explain what happened.
When you buy, we ask when you get paid and how often, then build a payment schedule around your paychecks. Sometimes your next paycheck falls just days after you buy, so the first installment comes soon after your down payment. We know that can feel close. The reason is that from the day your policy starts, we pay your insurance company on your behalf without knowing yet whether your payments will arrive. Every payment date is in the calendar in your agreement, and we should make that calendar easier to find.
Your payments carry 0% interest, $0 finance charges and $0 late fees. And because we are a lender (in addition to your broker), we report all of your payments to the major credit bureaus, so paying on time can help you build or improve your credit score while you pay for insurance. We also don't set insurance rates; the carrier does. We show you options and do our best to find the lowest price.
Our team moved your first installment when you called on Oct 3 so you'd have more room between payments. We're also looking at letting customers choose a larger down payment with a later first installment. If there is anything else we can look at, please call (800) 220-1416 or email [email protected]. We're open every day, 5 AM to 10 PM Pacific.
