The whole process is so incredibly subjective and they will do ANYTHING not to pay. It would be much more beneficial for owners to deposit $25 a month into a separate bank account as a pet emergency fund. I know people say that about pet insurance all of the time, but Pawp, being as limiting as they are, is ABSOLUTELY not worth $25 a month. The biggest thing about Pawp: even if you and Pawp agree that your dog is suffering a life threatening emergency (and they activate your emergency fund), if your vet diagnoses anything else or additional, they won’t pay you ANYTHING. I’ve “called” them twice and both times I’ve talked to a barely-qualified tech (never a vet), who was clearly afraid of approving the activation of a fund and gave the wildest excuses (I pushed and pushed until she reached out to a vet and the vet agreed it was an emergency). The LVT’s absurd responses to a picture of a pee pad of pure blood that I sent her included (1) since it was on a pee pad, she couldn’t REALLY gauge anything, and (2) though it was quite literally 100% pure blood, she claims she saw a TINY bit of brown. Again, once she showed the picture to a vet and provided my dog’s info, the vet immediately deemed it an emergency. At this point, there are several other services and insurances out there that are cheaper and so much more beneficial than Pawp. And if you can’t find anything cheaper than $25 a month (you should), just open a separate bank account and save the $300 a year.

They my are the worse! Put in for an emergent request and was denied. Was told I didn’t have a video interview. I had a chat interview with one of their doctors. What is the difference? My dog couldn’t wait for a video interview he was diabetic ketoacidotic, liver enzymes were high as well as his pancreatic enzymes. Had diagnosis of pancreatitis. He crossed over 2 days after admission to the animal hospital. So tell me how this isn’t an emergency?!!! They take your money but done want to pay. Big joke! I wouldn’t recommend this company to anyone. They’re horrible!

Hi Robin, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Pawp. All medical records are assesed and utilized to determine coverage under the emergency found outside of our standard Rules & Regulations. Your situation did not qualify for coverage. Sincerely, Your Pawp Support Team

They will deny your $3,000 emergency fund claim if you go to the vet before the video chat. It does not matter whether your pet is dying; they want you to do the video chat and not go to the vet or they will deny your claim. Their definition of "life threatening" emergency is so ambiguous that it is always subject to their discretion. They're always finding a way to deny you.

The vet was wonderfully helpful and accomplished my goal of deciding whether to go to emergency vet or wait until morning. Definitely worth it.

Pawp has been an invaluable service. I had a cat who required leg amputation surgery, and in the weeks that followed, I had all sorts of late night or weekend emergencies where my vet was closed and I had no one to turn to. Pawp was there for me during a 3am emergency when his stitches popped and I was at a total loss what to do. They were there for me on a Sunday morning, when he got an infection in his stitches and it was very suddenly and aggressively inflamed. They helped me bridge the gap between the physical vet visits I needed for him. They answered my benign questions about a stray sniffle or a watery eye with just as much patience as they answered my emergencies. I am not a wealthy person, and my pet came into my life by total chance. The fact that this service is not only high quality, but affordable even to someone with low income, is huge. The one advice I'd give is, like with any other insurance, you need documentation and preparation if you want to take advantage of emergency funds. Healthcare is a business, as much as it shouldn't be, and that means you need to prove your situation before you receive funding. Keep your head about you and be prepared for things, and you should be able to take full advantage of the emergency funds. I see a lot of the negative reviews being from people who failed to do so, and responded with anger. It's understandable, I'm sure they're very hurt, but seriously, it's not Pawp that's at fault for the paperwork mess we all have to go through for healthcare. This is an excellent service.
