They ARE LYING, The Recordings Are EXTREMELY LOW QUALITY. Audio is cut off and destroyed.
Riverside.fm is LYING – They Do NOT Record Audio and Video Locally at full quality, as They Claim!
Riverside.fm is a scam when it comes to their biggest selling point – local recording of high-quality, unprocessed audio and video. Their entire marketing pitch is a lie. If you’re thinking about using Riverside for professional recording, save yourself the wasted time, frustration, and false hope because they do NOT deliver what they promise.
The Big Lie: Local Recording at Maximum Quality? FALSE.
Riverside claims that their software records audio and video locally, meaning uncompressed, untouched, and unprocessed WAV files straight from the source. That is absolutely NOT what happens. The audio is processed first, meaning it is NOT recorded locally before processing takes place. That alone makes their marketing fraudulent.
We ran scientific tests—literally scientific, as we are conducting a university study that requires pristine, lossless audio recording. We fed a direct, digital signal (no mics, no background noise, no external interference) straight into Riverside. The software completely butchered the audio with aggressive processing—compressing it, removing sections of sound entirely, and outright destroying audio fidelity. This happened even with all supposed processing features turned off.
We Have PROOF: Riverside Cuts Out and Butchers Audio
We documented everything. We recorded a direct comparison between the original audio and what Riverside recorded, and it is night and day. Key findings:
1. Heavy, unwanted processing: Even though Riverside claims the recordings are unprocessed, our tests prove that it applies aggressive compression and noise suppression.
2. Audio randomly cuts out: Riverside mutilates audio by removing parts it deems unnecessary. This means that any audio that's not voice, like music, musical exercises, sound FX and musical performances, like singing, etc. get chopped up beyond recognition.
3. Blatant disregard for users’ needs: We are audio engineers, music producers, and software developers, not amateurs. We spent days meticulously setting up a perfect digital routing system, yet Riverside failed catastrophically to record high-quality audio.
We sent them proof—video demonstrations, direct audio comparisons, and step-by-step explanations of our setup. Their pathetic support response? A copy-paste answer that showed they didn’t even read our emails. Their “solution”? Blaming us for their software’s failure despite clear evidence that the issue is on THEIR end.
Terrible Customer Support – Clueless and Useless
Riverside’s support is horrendous. Instead of acknowledging the problem, they just throw generic, useless responses back at you. After multiple emails and DETAILED technical breakdowns proving their software is broken, they still didn’t even understand the issue.
Their response? “Check your setup”—even though we already PROVED the issue was on their end.
Their incompetence is insulting to professionals. Either they are completely clueless, or they are deliberately lying to cover up the fact that their software does NOT work as advertised.
If Riverside Can’t Even Get Local Recording Right, What Else Are They Lying About?
This is false advertising, plain and simple. If you are a musician, podcaster, or professional who needs genuinely unprocessed, high-quality audio, STAY AWAY FROM RIVERSIDE.
They wasted our time, our effort, and our trust. They do NOT deliver what they promise, and they REFUSE to take responsibility for it.
Final Warning: DO NOT USE RIVERSIDE IF YOU NEED TRUE LOCAL RECORDING.
I will personally make sure this information reaches every major reviewer, YouTuber, and audio professional so they are warned about this scam. If Riverside doesn’t fix their software immediately, they are going to have a PR nightmare on their hands.
🚨 Riverside.fm is FRAUDULENT. Do NOT trust their false claims. 🚨

Best Possible Tool for Starting a Podcast!
I learned about Riverside when I was a guest on a podcast that used it. I saw then how stable the environment was, and my host extolled its virtues. When the time came to start my own podcast, I signed up for my own account. As someone brand new to creating a podcast, I was incredibly impressed with the easy operation of the program. Riverside provided great "how to" videos to get me started. Also, when I made a few rookie mistakes and accidentally deleted files that I actually needed, Riverside customer service was incredibly gracious in helping me. Not only did they restore the deleted files, but they treated me as a valued customer, without any sense at all of "talking down" to me. Also, I have found editing a recording on Riverside to be an absolute joy compared to any other tool I have used. Once you get the hang of a few basics, editing on Riverside is simple, straightforward, and frankly fun. I now produce weekly episodes through Riverside, and I also use it to record lectures for university courses I teach online. I have recommended Riverside to colleagues as the very best tool for starting a podcast!
