Interface causes errors that affect my filings
The pros:
It's very easy to create 1099s, and with a couple of clicks, send them off to the recipients. The site even verifies addresses and taxpayer ID numbers, which I appreciate.
The cons:
1. Their customer service system is horrible.
2. Their interface prevented me from completing my forms on time, and the problem could easily have been prevented on the back end.
To elaborate:
I submitted a customer service request via the chatbot on their site. I didn't hear back so I submitted another request. I soon had two email threads going at the same time. I constantly received conflicting information and answers. I got incorrect info multiple times. I was also told to ignore a popup on their site that said a separate state filing was required. It took me at least 10 messages to get the correct answer.
The problem was that my New Jersey 1099s wouldn't save, and no one could tell me why not. New Jersey requires a separate state filing IF you withheld state taxes OR you paid the person more than $1,000. There are several states that require a separate filing, so on Tax1099 I usually can click "OK" and they all go through. This year, all but New Jersey.
I had more than one rep tell me that the state filing wasn't required (wrong! I met the threshold!). I asked, "why do I get a popup that says it's required"? I literally went around in this circle for days. Their emails are all anonymous so there's no way to know how many different people are hopping in to the conversation.
Turns out New Jersey requires me to add three zeros at the end of my tax ID number. I got this tip after about 10 or 11 messages from me to their support email address, insisting that yes, a state return is filed, and I needed help figuring out why the site wouldn't cooperate.
Believe it or not, on the other email thread, I still have someone telling me to ignore the warning and skip the state filing. Wow, thanks a lot Tax1099, for doing your best to get me in trouble with the IRS!!
EASY SOLUTIONS!
* Use a ticket system so we can keep the conversation in one thread! I was asked multiple times in a single email thread to provide screen shots.
*Automatically change the format of my tax ID number for all states that require a different format!
*Don't give me a popup saying that a state filing is required if it isn't!
*Don't give me a warning that something is required, and then tell me to ignore it!
*And for goodness' sake, teach the reps how to look up requirements. It was clear, even based on your own FAQ, that my state filings were in fact required. Telling me to skip or ignore them was very irresponsible and unprofessional.

Much too complicated to transfer data…
Much too complicated to transfer data from QuickBooks to Tax1099 program. I had to have a QuickBooks specialist share my screen and walk me through the process. It took her 30 minutes to transfer the data after stopping and starting over several times. When it takes a specialist 30 minutes to move the data, there has to be a better method.
