Hello Lysa,
This is Katharine. I'm the founder of Adopted.com.
Lysa I'm struggling a bit to reply to your review. I want to be as helpful as possible, and every member on my site truly matters to me, so I'm putting a lot of thought into it.
It's tough to read someone write that my life's work is useless, a farce, a waste, and not what your generation would expect from me. Maybe you are right - our generations might have different standards in a lot of ways.
However I have been operating Adopted.com for close to 19 years (almost half my life) during which time I am involved in member support on a daily basis. I don't know which generation you are referring to, but I believe all generations deserve kind respect, and humanity.
From our community of over 1.2 million members, the compliment we receive most often is about our interface. People enjoy how user friendly it is, and I've refined it over the years to make sure it stays approachable while also being up to date. Is designed to be simple to use on purpose, so that it is useful for all generations. Not just yours.
We keep up with technology in other very important ways as well, including developing DNA comparison services that we still offer completely for free, among many other things.
I agree with you - we don't have a lot of members currently based in Taiwan. If you didn't find your match there, I understand. As you noted, we provided a refund to you when you requested it.
You have suggested people should save up for an investigator rather than use our mutual registry, and of course this is an option, however almost daily now I receive a new message to report a match that was done in only a few minutes on my site.
This is one of the reasons people continue to find so much value in Adopted.com, along with our member community and many other supporting services.
Some of the things you commented on, such as our having a message limit on initial contact, protects our members from others spamming them - but there is no opportunity for me to go through your concerns with you, as you have declined to communicate with me when I reached out to you to offer support.
So, we will have to live with your 1 star review.
Please know, though, the damage that a very poor review such as yours does is to divert people whose match is waiting on Adopted.com, from connecting with them. If your match is not on the registry I am honestly disappointed about it, but I don't want that to result in others missing their opportunity.
My team and I hope so much that your search is successful soon Lysa, so you can have the reunion you are seeking and that you deserve.
With respect,
Katharine
