Most of the teachers are helpful and have good teaching methods and some are not helpful at all. If I leave feeling good about my progress I’m motivated to continue but some leave me frustrated and anxious.

1 month in - love the conversations with real people!
I've been using BaseLang for about a month now, and there are a lot of things I really love about it!
**The flexibility is fantastic.** I can find just about any 30–60 minute opening in my day, and there are usually several teachers from all over Latin America available. I can choose whether I want to spend that time simply having a conversation or working through a structured lesson.
One of the biggest benefits for me is **the accountability of meeting with a real person.** I've tried other language-learning apps that rely on AI conversations or gamified lessons, but having an actual appointment with another human makes me much more likely to show up. And knowing that teaching is part of someone's livelihood makes me think twice before canceling!
I also think the pricing hits a sweet spot. It's expensive enough that I'm motivated to use it and get my money's worth, but SO much more affordable than hiring a private tutor.
The teachers have been a mixed bag. I've had a few who seemed to just go through the motions, but I've also found some fantastic ones! Thankfully, I can save my favorites and continue booking with them. I especially love getting to know people from different countries, hearing about their lives, and learning about their cultures and experiences. That part of language learning is genuinely fun for me.
**Where I think BaseLang falls short is in the curriculum and independent study materials.** I don't find the lesson plans particularly robust or well structured for learning and retaining new information. The homework is also difficult to do independently because there's no built-in way to check my answers or know whether my grammar is correct. As a result, I usually save the homework to work through with a teacher instead of doing it on my own.
I really wish the core lessons, electives, and homework offered better opportunities for self-guided learning and reinforcement between classes. I want to be able to study independently, not just during my scheduled sessions.
On a positive note, customer service has been incredibly responsive!
**My overall impression:** I'm enjoying BaseLang enough that I'm signing up for another month while I continue adapting to this learning style. I would absolutely recommend it to someone who needs more speaking practice, flexibility, and accountability. However, I wouldn't recommend it as strongly to someone looking for a comprehensive, sequential curriculum with strong independent study tools.
For me, the real value is the human connection, the conversation practice, and having someone expecting me to show up. That's what keeps me coming back!

Baselang is working for me
The online platform and curriculum is very solid. The number of teachers and ability to schedule around my daily routine is why Baselang works well for me.

Unlimited One on One Tutoring
The one on one lessons are great. Many of the teachers are very good, some are not great, but you have to try it and see that works for you. I think the course content could be updated. Some of the exercises are a little confusing, but overall I think it's a great system. I do also wish there were some Spain based, Spanish speakers. Everyone is from Latin America, and the ones that can, help with Castillian Spanish, but some are not knowledgeable about it.

Varying teacher interactions!
The teachers of course are on a spectrum from good to no so good, I have been fortunate to have found some good ones that I can relate too, it’s all a matter of perspective! I only represent myself!

Mostly good, with only several bad experiences.
Most of the teachers were easy to talk to and relate with, and offered constructive criticism to correct grammatical errors. It was sometimes hard to get messages through about cancelling lessons, but mostly communication was good. Some teachers were slightly unprofessional, or struggled to make conversation or correct errors, but on the whole, I found BaseLang a useful tool in improving my conversational Spanish.
