"I had a truly disappointing experience with DeVry University. They did not respect my time as a student, and I wasn’t able to complete my classes properly. It felt like there was a lack of organization, and I noticed issues with how they handle student information and classes. Overall, it was just a negative experience. I hope this feedback helps others who are considering the school."

Very costly
Very costly, doesn’t allow you to have alumni discounts paired with internal scholarships.. doesn’t help pay bill when student is having a hardship

DeVry students are limited to participation in one DeVry-based scholarship, grant or group pricing program. If a student qualifies for more than one such program, the student will be awarded the most beneficial award. It’s wonderful to hear you are an alumnus of the University and pursuing a new program. We wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

As a retired Air Force veteran using…
As a retired Air Force veteran using the Post-9/11 GI Bill, my experience with DeVry University was disappointing.
My biggest issue was with book and ebook fees. Before enrolling, my financial plan showed a general amount for books and materials. What I did not fully understand was that electronic book fees would automatically be added to my account unless I took action to opt out.
As a coding student, I purchased my own physical coding books, including required code books that are essential for coursework and certification preparation. I even bought additional required books from Amazon because the prices were more reasonable. Despite purchasing my own materials, I was still charged ebook fees.
What bothers me most is not the dollar amount. It is the process. I believe students should actively choose whether they want ebooks rather than being automatically enrolled and charged. An opt-in system would be much fairer and more transparent than an opt-out system.
When I raised my concerns, I felt the issue was dismissed because the disclosure existed somewhere in the enrollment paperwork. My concern is that a reasonable student should not have to search through pages of documents to understand that additional charges will automatically be added to their account.
I encourage prospective students, especially veterans using GI Bill benefits, to ask for a complete itemized breakdown of all tuition, book, ebook, and course material charges before enrolling. Make sure you understand what is automatic, what is optional, and how to decline anything you do not want.
I hope DeVry improves transparency for future students so they can make fully informed decisions before committing to the program.

Disappointed and Unemployed
Last year, I decided to pursue a new career after lots of changes in my life. I researched the Medical Billing and Coding program, and even spoke with an incredibly friendly and informative advisor who explained the program and its potential for my future. I explained to her that I was currently unemployed and could take the year to complete the certificate program, get an entry-level job in the field, and then return to pursue higher degrees in Health Information Management. She agreed it was a respectable plan and we both agreed it would get me back on my feet and employed by this year.
Fast forward to when I complete my program and graduate with honors. I start working with a career advisor whose job is to guide students in things like resumés, interview questions, and especially where it’s ideal to job hunt with my new certification. We would spend an hour together on the phone every few weeks going over my LinkedIn profile, what should and should not be on my resumé, and even consoled some of my fears with future interviews. My first confusing scenario was being told I had access to my career advisor for 3 months. My last day of class was February 28th, and our first meeting was mid-February. We had a total of 4 visits together in a two month span, the last being April 15 which she deemed our last visit. I expressed to her my concerns that I had put in so many job applications since February (a total of 96 by then), and had received no call backs or interviews, only denials. She said it had to do with the number of applicants and that it “just takes time.” I explained to her that some applications I was hunting down that had just been posted that day, or even 30 mins prior, so I was not applying to old listings. She continued to repeat that I just needed to be patient as it would take time, and that I needed to “persevere.” I asked her if the resumé that she put together for me maybe needed to be reevaluated and altered, but she said it was fine and I’d eventually get calls.
I have now submitted a total of 142 applications since the middle of February. I’ve had no call backs or interviews. I took the initiative of submitting my resumé to a close friend who works for another prestigious University, who then forwarded it to her boss who has a Masters Degree in education. It was presented to me by both of them that the resumé was put together very poorly and didn’t target the audience I was aiming for with the jobs I’ve been pursuing. I began feeling less supported by the advisor who told me I could inform her of any updates with interviews, but again my concerns had been invalidated so I did not feel like she could give me the advice I was looking for to succeed. Considering she was aware that I am currently unemployed, I expected some compassion as my fear has been growing that I won’t find a career in this field. At our last visit, I asked her if DeVry had a connection with any companies/practices/hospitals that openly look for new graduates post graduation. Her only response was no, and to keep navigating the DeVry job board. I applied for jobs on the school job board, indeed, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, and Glass door. I am not limiting myself to specific job descriptions or locations. Overall, DeVry has NOT in anyway guided me through this process or provided any sort of support beyond my graduation and being a good student. As of April 21, 2025, almost two months since graduation, I have not been interviewed or accepted to any positions in the field certification I just spent tens of thousands of dollars to acquire. Devry over promises and under delivers, and makes adults feel as though they can change their life and help support their dreams, when in fact their goal is to recruit students for status and money.
