My trip was a mismatch- my mistake
My trip was a mismatch- my mistake. Best appreciated by enthusiastic photographers and nature devotees. I came interested in Arctic exploration/history, in depth examination of climate change, and evolving politics of Russian- EU Arctic cooperation. Expedition guides are enthusiastic outdoorsy types, but not reflective engaging instructors capable of sparking meaningful conversation and framing climate issues. Secondly, it’s a value based trip, not luxury- as advertised but not fully understood by me. Think Toyota, not Porsche. Economy class, not business. This is not comparable to Lindblad or Ponand, nor is its cost basis. Surprise, you get what you pay.

Thank you, Mr. Gardner, for admitting upfront that the trip was a mistake on your part, relative to your expectations for Poseidon’s expedition guides and educational programming, i.e. our presentations and briefings in the Oceanus Lounge. While some of our guides have witnessed the impact of climate change over the past decade and can talk anecdotally about it, they are not experts on this topic and we don’t promote our expedition cruises with this as a focus. Eighty-six percent (86%) of your fellow passengers on your June trip rated the presentations, recaps and briefings by our expedition team either excellent or good. Ninety-three percent (93%) rated our team for their overall work either excellent or good. Only seven percent (7%) rated them fair. Poseidon has never put itself in the luxury category, and our model in this competitive segment of the cruise industry is to provide great value and great access to remote polar regions where opportunities to see wildlife and areas of great scenic beauty take precedence. We regret that Poseidon wasn’t right for you, but we do hope you continue to explore the polar regions.
