About Talanoa
Talanoa — the inbox for people who hate email.Talanoa is a privacy-first desktop email client for macOS, Windows and Linux, built for people who spend their day buried in messages and want their attention back. Most inboxes are organised by time, so the newsletter that landed thirty seconds ago shouts as loudly as the message from your co-founder. Talanoa is organised by people. Your mail is grouped by sender, so you see who is asking for you before you see how much is waiting. What you get on top of that:- A built-in Kanban board to turn emails into tasks- One-click unsubscribe and one-click sender blocking- Shareable calendar availability, without leaving your inbox- Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and custom IMAP/SMTP, all in one unified inbox- Privacy is a constraint here, not an afterthought. Your emails are stored locally on your device, not on our servers. We never read, index or transmit your messages. Talanoa has been independently audited by TAC Security against the OWASP Application Security Verification Standard and is certified CASA Tier 2, Google's advanced security standard for apps accessing Gmail.
Talanoa (talanoa.email) has 11 customer reviews on Folks Told, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.
Talanoa Email is a perfect combination of feature rich yet privacy first email application. Supports AI features too but all locally and works like a charm even on Linux. No better email application currently of its kind. Highly recommended. The founder is super responsive too and genuinely wants to make app better for his users.

Finally, the email app I’ve been waiting for
I think I’ve tried pretty much every email client out there over the years — Spike, Spark, Airmail, Canary, Superhuman, Big Mail and many others. And for years, I’ve been waiting for someone to finally build what seemed obvious to me: one app that brings email, tasks and calendar together into one coherent workflow.
Amie tried to go in that direction but never really became the product I was hoping for. I was also a very early Spike user and loved the original idea of presenting emails like messages, grouped into conversations rather than by subject, before the product shifted much more towards team communication.
Talanoa is the first app I’ve found that actually delivers on that vision — and does it remarkably well.
An email can naturally become a task, and that task can then be scheduled directly into your calendar when you actually plan to deal with it. Even better, Talanoa doesn’t force you into one productivity system. I personally organize my tasks into Today, This Week, This Month and Someday, which gives me a proper triage system instead of an endless to-do list.
What really stands out is how practical and well thought out everything feels. You can tell it was built by someone who actually needs to manage both a busy inbox and a lot of things to get done.
The support is also excellent: extremely responsive and genuinely open to feedback and suggestions.
The main weak point for now is the iPhone app, which is still under development and not yet at the level of the desktop experience. Once that catches up, I genuinely think Talanoa could become, by quite some distance, the best email and productivity app on the market.
After years of trying alternatives, this is pretty much the app I’ve been waiting for. Thanks, John!

A smarter way to do email
An email client that looks like no other, and somehow feels completely natural to use.
I’ve been using it everyday for almost a year now, and I’m so happy with it. Grouping emails by sender is so smart!
Tons of features are shipped every month, and you can even submit your own feature requests. Very responsive customer support.

Love it! Interface is super useful - Great customer support!
Talanoa is great! It has got a lovely user interface! Processing E-Mail genuinely feels flawless.
The other thing why I like Talanoa so much is not just that it runs on Linux, but John (who as fa as I know is the creator of Talanoa) offers great support! I have always gotten an answer to my support request in less than 24h. He is always so fast at fixing bugs and implementing new features.
I really feel like I am actively a part of shaping the future of Talanoa. Love it!

Great email experience. Finally!
Great experience! I switched from Spark to Talanoa and love how intuitive the app is. Emails feel like conversations, and my inbox is finally clutter-free.
The Kanban-style to-do system makes it so much easier to stay on top of things without switching between tools. I now use Talanoa for both personal and work emails.

One of the best email client out there
One of the best email client out there. A truly refreshing experience in how to use email.
It's still in its early stage, but the devs are really productive and there is big updates every weeks.
I find it hard getting back to other clients after a few days use.

Make it a task and move on
My husband showed me Talanoa, and I asked for the link right after.
I am a new user, but so far I love it!
What got me is the inbox sorted by sender: you see people, not 40 threads. It almost feels like Slack.
If, like me, you're buried under newsletters, you can unsubscribe in one click. Magical.
And you can turn any email into a task. Kanban lovers, you will be thrilled.
Don't be afraid of losing your labels and folders; they come with you. But no need to make URGENT or to-do labels; with the To-Do, everything is ready to be handled. Just make it a task and move on. Your mind can go to rest at the end of the day, without having to check if you have set up your reminder correctly or completely forgot to reply to someone. I feel like I can finally go to sleep on top of everything.

Really enjoying Talanoa so far
I've tried Gmail, Outlook, Thunderbird and Spark, and Talanoa is the first email client that genuinely changed the way I deal with my inbox.
The people-first approach is a game changer. Instead of one endless pile of messages, everything feels organized and much easier to process. I can immediately see who needs my attention, keep the context of conversations, and get through a large inbox much faster.
The app is fast, clean and modern, and features like the unified inbox and built-in to-dos make it especially useful when you deal with a lot of emails every day.
It takes a little time to get used to a different way of thinking about email, but now I really wouldn't want to go back. It almost makes email feel less like email.
On top of that, the developer actually listens to feedback and ships improvements constantly.
Definitely one of the most refreshing takes on email I've seen in years.
