My colleague referred me to Zip Moving. They moved us on Sept 22. The movers put a hole in our drywall coming up the main entry stairs. I was irritated since we just had the house painted, but it wouldn’t have been that big a deal if they had made restitution. It’s been over two weeks since our move and we’ve heard nothing about repair, despite sending multiple emails to the company. I told my colleague I was surprised given her high praise of the company. I definitely would not use them again.

The moving crew was very good
The moving crew was very good. They loaded the truck quickly. The problem was that there was not enough truck. The estimator blew it. It took two trips to complete the move and the cost of the move went up about 30%.

Dear David,
Thank you for your review. We’re glad to hear you were satisfied with the performance of our moving crew.
Regarding the estimate, our quotes are based on the inventory and details provided during booking. If the actual volume exceeded what was originally submitted, additional time or truck space may be required, which can affect the final cost.
If you’d like us to review the details of your move or the estimate provided, please feel free to contact us directly at 855-947-6543. We’d be happy to take a closer look and provide clarification.

Unclear upcharges, broken items, unfinished work, poor communication
While the crew was friendly, my estimate went up by $500 for unclear reasons. When I emailed the company twice with my concerns, I received no response. I asked for an itemized receipt and they sent an unitemized one so I could not even identify the reason for upcharge! I also had damaged furniture and broken items including an antique cup from my grandmother. The crew also left for the day leaving furniture unassembeled that they had disassembled to move, including a couch, recliner, and master bed! Do NOT recommend.

Dear Carrie,
Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear the crew was professional during the move.
Regarding the final charges, all billing is based on the actual time, services, and materials used on moving day, as outlined in the signed paperwork. If you still need an itemized receipt, we encourage you to contact our team directly at 855-947-6543, and we’ll ensure it’s provided.
As for the claim of damaged or missing items, we have no record of a submitted claim for your move. If you believe items were damaged, we recommend filing a formal claim so our Claims Department can review and assist you accordingly.
We appreciate your business and remain available to help resolve any outstanding concerns through the appropriate channels.

I have items that are important family…
I have items that are important family items that did not make it to my new home. I didn’t realize until I was done unpacking and sent a note to you but no one responded. I’m sad that one item in particular is gone forever. I won’t use your company again.

We're truly sorry to hear about your experience, and we sincerely apologize for the distress and frustration this has caused -especially when it involves meaningful family items. We understand how upsetting this must be, and we deeply regret that we fell short in both communication and care.
Your feedback is being taken very seriously. We’d like to investigate this further and do everything we can to make it right. Please reach out to us directly so we can look into your case in more detail and ensure it’s properly addressed.

Cost Over-Run, Damaged Items, Un-Moved Items
(June, 2022 move)
Significantly adverse experience/would not recommend: cost over-run, several damaged items (only by sheer luck were several more expensive and irreplaceable items not damaged) and many items not moved as contracted.
1. Cost Over-Run: The initial quote was based not only on the detailed list of key items I provided as requested but was also backed up by a “video tour,” where Zip Movers examined all of the rooms in my apartment and their content. The estimator promised me that his figure was highly conservative, and he expected a lower final price. On moving day, as soon as the team entered, they called the home office, who “authorized” a price $1,000 higher than original estimate; they were not able to explain why. Adding to the time-based pricing concerns, the movers themselves were not terribly efficient. The team leader disappeared for a period of time and couldn’t be found. One of the workers was found chatting up a staff member in the apartment building. In the end, the final bill was only a few hundred dollars more than the initial estimate—but that takes into account my labor and that of a friend who greatly supplemented the Zip Movers team’s effort. A friend jumped in carrying furniture/boxes at the same rate as the movers at the new home (destination), and I also worked as hard as the mover, packing and carrying, throughout the day (origin and destination). So I expect the bill would have been even higher if my friend and I hadn’t supplemented the team’s effort significantly. I also declined most of the unpacking service.
2. Damaged Items: And it is unfortunate that I spent so much time packing myself, because I should have spent more time supervising the care of the movers’ work. Several items were damaged, and more were placed at risk of damage. A several-hundred-dollar Panama hat from Italy was crushed inside a box of heavy items. New Ethan Allen chairs were packed in the truck without any wrapping or protection, and the wooden legs from one chair stained the upholstered seat of others (see photo of chairs in truck without any wrapping). A large Serena and Lily arm chair was left without wrapping, resting its weight directly on top of a sharp metal corner of a bed-frame (lucky that it did not destroy the upholstery; see photo—I had already moved the chair off of the sharp corner before taking the photo). In the packing process, several pictures were stacked flat, directly on top of a nice oil painting—with the metal hooks of one picture sitting directly on the painted surface, without any protection. The base of an Aeron chair was cracked. The level of care was far less than that of the movers I used a year ago for a different move. When I reported the damage and the cost of repair from the original manufacturers, the corporate office only offered $50, which was well less than the actual cost of repair.
3. Unmoved Items: I left my apartment (origin) before the team was finished packing so I could buy them no lunch and meet them to unpack (no good deed goes unpunished…). At the end of the day, after delivery at my new home, I returned to apartment and found all sorts of items that were not packed and moved as they should have been. See attached photo. (Bottles with liquids were, by company policy, properly my responsibility to move, but the other remaining items in the photos should have been moved.) It took me a day of subsequent work to move the items that the movers simply left in the apartment.
Zip Movers was made aware of all of these issues either during the move or immediately afterward, and, beyond platitudes, they offered either $50 or the opportunity to use an independent claims service. I would not that all of the movers involved claimed that had been working with Zip Movers for several years, so I do not believe these issues are due to new staff.

Great back office support - movers not so much
My experience all the way up until the move day was awesome. Even in the beginning of the move day I would have still rated it five stars. Unfortunately it went down here quickly from there. Ryan’s comment of “I don’t give a S*” when he spoke about my move was obviously followed as I continue to find drawers that no longer open smoothly, scratched televisions, and missing cables. They had left moving items on my front porch of my old place and did not even care to say “oops”. I had to move them back inside and now I possibly need to hire yet another moving company or vehicle to finish.

Dear Christine,
We're glad you are happy with the overall service of our helpers, as well as our back office support. However, we're terribly sorry that you had such an experience with our lead mover. Such comments are highly inappropriate and we have already taken action to ensure the lead mover changes his behavior toward customers going forward. We as a moving company have not and will not tolerate rudeness towards our customers in any form. When it comes to the damages done during your move, we're really sorry and only hope that this will be resolved to your satisfaction, as discussed on our calls. Please know we'll be here for you if you need anything at all from us.
