I just got a order from advantage lumber . 56 boards of decking and out of the 56 - 20 was in bad shape crucked and all twisted . I call my order representative and all they told me is that they i have to send pictures of the boards ( and that they are only replaced if they of by 1/8 yo every board foot . I send them videos showing the defects and they told me they can not receive video on they computer ( can you believe that kind of excuse ) horrible delivery time and customer service ( that is after you purchase) because before i placed my order i received about 5 yo 6 email trying to make sure i close my order before i when somewhere else . I will never by from them again . And do not recommend their service . I have a customer waiting to get their deck finished and i got this type of response from this store . Im very disappointed with this company

I had some problems with the shipment of IPE wood from Advantage. After sending pictures and some conversations on the phone, I was able to get a satisfactory solution to my order. The process took a little time and patience but the end result worked for us and the IPE wood provides a beautiful deck railing which has elicited many positive comments.

I have spent over 10k on IPE wood and have made 3 orders to Advantage Lumber. The customer service is awful and delivery times are significant. When asking when an order will arrive, I have been always answered with a cryptic answer " Our order lead times are unto 14 business days and from then it is unto the carrier". I experienced additional issues and problems when asking about board split/cracking and was met with an immediate and defensive customer service rep. I could not even finish a sentence before this guy finished what I was trying to say...The first question "where did you store your wood? Thats why it cracked, did you read our website and policy?... These guys are a marketing machine drop shipping from several locations and don't care once your payment is made.

If I could give less than a one star I would. I have spent thousands of dollars over the last few years at advantage lumber with no problem. My last purchase, about $7000 of tigerwood, was a mess. I had never seen wood warp like some of the boards did. Some boards were dried properly, others were not. Not only did "18 yrs at advantage lumber John" state that in 18 yrs and millions on dollars of tigerwood sold, he had NEVER had any issues with tigerwood (seriously...), he portrayed it was our fault. To make matters worse, he NEVER responded to us regarding our request for replacement pieces. The real sad thing is I needed additional boards and was going to make another order, yet no response. The warped boards were so bad, they were unusable. It appears as long as your order has no issues, you should be fine, but don't expect any customer service or response if there is there is the slightest problem with your order. I do tons of wood work and have now taken my business elsewhere.

I decided on replacing my 21 year old cedar with Ipe from Advantage Lumber. The whole process was great. Ordering, and delivery was easy. There were a few boards that had defects and needed replacement. Advantage replaced all boards as needed. They were very helpful and the whole process went very smoothly. My sales rep, Shawn was great to work with and communication was always good. I do recommend this company and would buy from them again.

Three years ago I built a Tigerwood deck, approximately 400 square feet, from Advantage Lumber. I ordered approximately 15% more than needed, to account for damaged, warped, discolored, or otherwise not useable lumber. Everything arrived on time. About 10% was not useable, although I tend to be more particular than most. Deck installation went well, as long as you follow some basic rules. I ordered the bending tool, which was quite useful, as nothing is of course perfectly straight and it takes a lot of force to bend lumber against its width. Make sure your joists are perfectly level (shim as required) and everything goes together quite well. Check grain direction to avoid cupping (convex side up). The deck was beautiful for the first summer. Gradually, however, it has changed over time from the orange tinted tigerwood grained surface, to a much more uniform, medium brown surface, despite the use of the recommended decking oil once a year. All the picture's I've seen of Tigerwood decking have apparently been completely new decks. The wood itself appears to be holding up well. I am not sorry I built the deck or used Tigerwood, or ordered from Advantage. It is not, however, the showpiece deck everyone raved about that first year.

Wayne, Most woods are photosensitive and Tigerwood does have the tendency to darken and have a more consistent look than it's original wild variation. Some customers like that it darkens and some prefer the original look. If you would like to restore the original look you can use the DeckWise cleaner and brightener and use a power washer with a wide angle fan tip. Once you've treated the surface like this you can apply Ipe Oil and that should bring you back close to the original look.

Good and Bad. We had a large shipment and everything went great with zero waste or issues. The next order to finish the project was about half the size and maybe 25% was unusable mainly due to color as IPE was BLACK, and way outside the normal variation we typically see and way outside color of other 90% of the job. Totally understand it is a natural product, not our first project over last 20 years of construction! They are not helping , so having to order some wood to finish from somewhere else. Seal and Heidi Klum looked beautiful together, but Black wood next to light not so pretty.
