I trust my best knives with Jonathan Henke at Local Root: he knows what he's doing! My paring knife slips effortlessly through Early Girls. My chef's knife could shear a silk scarf in mid-air.

Jonathan did a fine, prompt job belt sharpening our kitchen knives and hand sharpening some of my custom folding knives. With Stoddards pretty much out of business, it is a relief to have Jonathan fill the niche in th Newton area,

it is close and does excellent jobs

I took all of my knives to be sharpened at Local Root (mainly due to the company's underwriting on WBUR), and Jonathan did a superb job. The service was quick, he explained exactly what he was going to do, and the edges are perfect. He also straightened the tip of one knife that was bent. My knives have not been this functional in years; worth every penny.

Although I possibly could have sharpened my knives at home with a stone, I found the job done by Local Root to be a far superior job. The short drive to the shop was well worth the result!

My sweet husband attempted to cook me dinner one night and used my favorite knife to chop chicken bones. My knife was all dented and damaged and I brought It to Local Roots to see if it could be salvaged and repaired. They did such a wonderful job sharpening it that it was as good as new! He got all of the dents out of the knife, as if it never happened. Customer service was great also, they really care about their customers! I will definitely come back :)

I love the store, so it's great they offer knife sharpening as well. I didn't want to just leave it though, I wanted to learn how it's done. The store owner took the time to show me how it's done and how to take care of it going forward. I think it'd be great if they offered these kind of classes more often.

I had Local Root sharpen a knife for me that I tend to use everyday. I am used to putting on my own edge, and maintaining it myself. After the LR sharpening, I realized that there is a big difference between what I can do with a stone, and what can be done professionally.
