I am absolutely appalled by my friend’s experience with Pawrade and its Health Guarantee.
My friend purchased a puppy through Pawrade and complied with all the requirements to activate the Health Guarantee. Within just a few days of bringing the puppy home, she noticed an abnormality in his gait. She promptly took him to her veterinarian, who performed X-rays and discovered a congenital deformity. At Pawrade’s request, she obtained a second opinion from an orthopedic specialist, who confirmed the deformity. All required documentation was submitted, yet the claim was denied.
What is the purpose of offering a Health Guarantee that promises peace of mind if a claim can be denied simply because the puppy is not currently showing signs of pain and surgery is not recommended due to his young age and small size? The fact that surgery is not currently recommended does not make a congenital deformity disappear or eliminate the possibility of future complications and costly veterinary care.
My friend did exactly what was required of her. She activated the guarantee, sought appropriate veterinary care, obtained the requested specialist evaluation, and submitted the necessary paperwork. Despite doing everything right, she was left to cover the veterinary and specialist expenses herself.
This experience raises serious concerns about what the Health Guarantee actually covers and whether it provides the protection that buyers reasonably expect. A guarantee should offer meaningful reassurance, not leave customers questioning its value when a legitimate congenital condition is identified and documented by veterinary professionals.
Even more disappointing, the responses provided regarding the denial appeared AI-generated, giving the impression that no one took the time to personally evaluate the circumstances with the care and consideration they deserved.
Pawrade’s handling of this situation has been incredibly disappointing. Buyers deserve transparency, accountability, and genuine human consideration when serious health concerns arise shortly after bringing a new puppy home. Based on this experience, I would strongly encourage prospective buyers to read the Health Guarantee very carefully and understand its limitations before making a purchase. A promise of peace of mind means very little if customers are left feeling unsupported when they need that protection most.

Very disappointing experience with Pawrade's "Health Guarantee"
I purchased my puppy through Pawrade and followed the requirements to activate PetPay’s Health Guarantee. Unfortunately, shortly after bringing my puppy home, he was diagnosed with a congenital shoulder malformation and dislocation that required veterinary evaluation and an orthopedic consultation.
I submitted a claim seeking reimbursement for the veterinary expenses associated with this condition, but my claim was denied.
What I find particularly disappointing is that the denial focused heavily on the fact that surgery was not currently recommended and that my puppy was expected to function well with conservative management. While I am grateful that his prognosis is favorable, the congenital abnormality itself remains. The fact that surgery is not currently necessary does not change the diagnosis or the veterinary expenses already incurred to evaluate his condition.
I requested clarification regarding the specific contract provisions used to deny the claim, the eligibility of the veterinary expenses, and the application of the documentation deadline. My concern is that the coverage I believed I had activated has not provided the reimbursement consideration I expected when my puppy was diagnosed with a congenital condition.
I understand that health guarantees have terms and limitations, and I recognize that not every veterinary expense is necessarily covered. However, I believe customers deserve clear, consistent explanations of what is covered, what is excluded, and how claims are evaluated.
My advice to anyone purchasing a puppy through a program offering a health guarantee is to read every provision carefully, keep copies of all veterinary records and correspondence, and obtain written clarification about exactly which expenses qualify for reimbursement before relying on the coverage.
This experience has been disappointing, and I hope PetPay provides clearer guidance to customers about the practical limitations of its Health Guarantee and how those limitations affect claims for documented congenital conditions.

Puppy had parvo virus upon delivery and died one day later
My Cavapoo puppy arrived after a three-day trip from somewhere in MO (August 21) and was severely lethargic. I thought that she might have been sedated, however three to four hours later she began having bouts of severe bloody diarrhea and was very weak. I took her to a nearby 24 hour veterinarian hospital in DC and she was tested and found positive for parvovirus. I transferred her to another hospital for treatment (where the cost of the treatment > than 5000 would be covered by a rescue team). There they began an intensive treatment that included stabilization and an a antigen parvovirus regimen. Unfortunately this was to no avail. She died later that evening (Aug 22) after 6 hours of very focused treatment. The vet who diagnosed her originally and treated her said it was clear from the timeline that she had parvovirus when she was picked up at the breeder and likely showed some early symptoms, though a vet in Missouri gave her an okay to travel on the 15th of Aug…two days before she began the trip East. The trip took 3 days. She was transported with other animals which must have had an effect on those animals as well. She was only 8 weeks old (less than 2 pounds) to the day. Clearly too young to be put up for sale with all kinds of health guarantees which unfortunately will not recover most of the costs not to mention the life of this adorable puppy. I am filing a claim for 600 dollars the cost of the veterinarian’s fees for the diagnosis and stabilisation in DC

We are very sorry that your pup fell ill and passed. We do check each pup very carefully and would never knowingly send out a sick pup. Your pup was given a head to toe inspection by a USDA licensed Vet on 8-15-2026, five days before being delivered to you. At that time the pup may have been infected but showed no symptoms. The pup was 8 weeks old and three pounds as confirmed by the vet, both of which meet the USDA requirements.
Our Health Guarantee manager has tentatively approved your claim for reimbursement but has been waiting for the documents from Friendship Pet Hospital. I called and left you a VM just minutes ago requesting the documents again so that we may fully process your claim.
I give my sincerest and apologies and condolences for this very sad and difficult situation.

Charging $5,200 for a shih tzu that has…
Charging $5,200 for a shih tzu that has no papers and not registered. How are people giving good reviews here? Have people lost their minds? There is no positive from a company charging these kinds of prices for a dog with no papers.

Hey Jerome, we are sorry to hear that the prices of pups is a bit distressing to you. We understand as prices have climbed on everything. But we price our pups on the lower end of national averages and regularly beat our competitors. We understand your frustration with prices of things, but is it really fair to come online and slam us for the very reasonable prices for the service we provide?

BEWARE OF PAWRADE AND THEIR PUPPY MILL DOGS
At the beginning of July 2026 we looked into buying a puppy thru Pawrade on the internet. We connected with someone there and were going to buy a havanese named Pudding. This was on July 6. After giving my credit card for a deposit on the evening of July 6th we thought more seriously about it and read some really bad reviews about them. That they sell sick dogs and don’t follow up if there is a problem. The list goes on and on. We called the first thing in the morning on July 7th to cancel. By that time they had already made plans with the breeder and said they couldn’t do anything to cancel. Since when does a 12 hour lapse constitute a done deal? Dont we have some protection due to changing our minds? We told them our concerns and they said it was too late. As a result we tried to fight it with our Visa credit card and it has been a month and they decided we are going to lose $600. We certainly cannot afford to lose the money since we are retired living on social security and if we went ahead with that purchase it would have been a monthly expense we would have had to endure. We are now out the $600 and have no recourse to get it back. We had just lost our 8 yr old havanese right before this happened and we were very distraught over it. At that point we wanted so badly to get another dog that we rushed into it with Pawrade. They must have known we were distraught because they were very fast to ask for a deposit and to brag about how wonderful their puppies are. Meanwhile all their connection with the puppies was thru the breeder sending them a picture. Never do they see or examine the dog. Pawrade is just an in between seller who raves about how wonderful their breeders are. How would they know. They don’t even vet them. I heard so many reports about people adopting sick dogs and Pawrade wouldn’t do anything about it. Their 3 yr health guarantee is a joke. According to reviews they prorate the guarantee and look for excuses not to pay or return money. They are very pushy and as far as we are concerned have no consideration about the dogs welfare. Most of their reviews are unsubstantiated and they use Trustpilot to back them up. Beware if u want to adopt a puppy thru this company. U would be much better off getting a dog from a qualified breeder on your own and seeing the dog first. They don’t even let u come get the puppy. They arrange for a truck to come to your selected location (along with a bunch of other dogs at the same time) and drop it off in a small crowded cage like it was a bread delivery. This to me sounds like puppy mill business. There are enough bad reviews warning the same thing but u won’t see much on line because they are careful to censor the bad reviews. When this purchase was going on they had many bad reviews that have since disappeared and only pix with smiling people holding cute puppies remain. The real story has been taken off their reviews. We felt once we read them very apprehensive about going further with the purchase since some of the warning were saying that their vet bills came to more than the price to purchase the dog. They have misrepresented themselves and we weren’t at liberty to take the chance that we might be getting a puppy mill dog that needed medical care. That was why our 8 yr old Havanese died suddenly. The vet saw that an undisclosed heart murmur must have caused her early death. It was both devastating and and we are still mourning her passing every day. I never want to go thru that ordeal again. Beware of Pawrade and their unscrupulous business tactics. They get dogs from areas that are known puppy mills and once u pay them a hefty amount of money u can forget them backing the purchase!

This customer has provided a very one sided opinion with a large amount of hypothetical possibilities that never happened. First, our sales reps are never pushy or high pressure. They know that choosing to get a puppy that will be with you 10-20 years is a big decision. We also are sure that each customer is fully aware of our refund and cancellation policies. They may seem strict on the surface, and that is because a puppy is not an inanimate object you can place back on a shelf. The policies are presented to the customer during the checkout process before purchase where they are required to check boxes acknowledging they read and agree to the terms before being allowed to proceed. They are presented with the terms a a second time where they are required to initial the specific sections as well. The customer was well aware of the policies before they agreed to move forward.
The customer than asked to cancel the sale as they had read a few poor reviews while ignoring the thousands of 5 star reviews. And keep in mind that those unhappy, justified or not, are far more likely to write a review than the happy ones. It was explained that cancelling the sale would result in us following the cancellation policy that they had agreed to. The customers credit card than reviewed all the details and found on our favor.
We carefully vet all of our breeders to ensure they are fully licensed and inspected by the USDA with no violations, as well as any local regulating authority. Each pup receives a head to toe exam by a USDA licensed vet just before going home and we require the new puppy parent to take the pup to their own vet within 3 days to ensure there are no issues. We administrate our Health Guarantee with integrity and regularly cover the expenses for customers.
EDIT: The customer disputed with their credit card company. We responded to their accusations with all the facts and truth that we cant put here on Trustpilot. The customers credit card company found in our favor.

Our Experience With Pawrade — Proceed With Caution
Response to Pawrade’s Response
I want to clarify several statements in Pawrade’s response because they do not accurately reflect what happened.
Pawrade states that I “did receive all the relevant documentation at the time of delivery.” That is not my experience. I was not provided the complete veterinary certificate at delivery. I had to ask the breeder for it, and the document I initially received was not the complete form. I then requested it from Pawrade multiple times before finally receiving what appeared to be the full, uncropped version.
Pawrade also states that I questioned the documents despite them being verified as accurate. My questions were not without reason. I independently contacted the original veterinary clinic in Ohio, as Pawrade instructed me to do. I was informed that the vaccines were administered by the breeder, not that veterinary clinic. I was also informed that the breeder performed the microchip. This is exactly why I was trying to verify the records rather than simply accepting information I was given.
There are still documentation gaps. I have no documentation identifying who docked my puppy’s tail, and I have no documentation showing that his dewclaws were removed. His front dewclaws are visibly present. Pawrade now says this must be confirmed by my veterinarian, and I am doing exactly that at my upcoming appointment.
The listing specifically stated “Dewclaws Removed.” Therefore, this is not simply a matter of me questioning something without evidence. The advertised service and the physical condition of my puppy do not currently match, and I am obtaining veterinary documentation so it can be formally addressed.
Regarding the tax, I never claimed Pawrade controls the state’s tax rate. My concern was the transparency and itemization of the additional charge during the purchase. Saying that Stripe automatically calculates the tax does not address that concern.
Finally, Pawrade states that they delivered a “completely happy and healthy pup.” I agree that our puppy is happy, healthy, and very loved. He has never been the problem. My review concerns the purchasing process, documentation, representations made in the listing, and the amount of communication and follow-up required to get answers.
I am not claiming that Pawrade intentionally provided false documents, nor am I accusing anyone of altering anything. I am stating what I personally experienced: I had to repeatedly request documentation, independently verify information with the veterinarians, and I still have unresolved documentation discrepancies.
I will continue following Pawrade’s requested process and will update my review once my veterinarian has documented the dewclaws and the remaining issues have been addressed.

This review is leaving out a lot of important facts. First, the customer did receive all the relevant documentation at the time of delivery. She chose to question the accuracy or authenticity of the documents. We carefully reviewed the documents and ensured that they were in fact accurate. We would never knowingly provide any documents that were not completely accurate but we wanted to be sure we didn't make an honest mistake.
No matter what clarifying or defining information we provided it was always questioned by the customer. After making sure the customer had the correct contact information for the two vets the pup had seen we directed the customer to contact the vets herself so she could be sure of their accuracy and authenticity. The customer responded that she had done that and was awaiting a reply.
The customer states that she believes the pups front dew claws were not removed. This is something that has to be confirmed by an actual Veterinarian. The customer was advised that at their first vet appointment to have her vet note the condition of the dew claws. One she has these documents we will open a health guarantee claim to address this issue if it exists.
We absolutely disclose clearly and plainly every cost associated with the puppy. There is nothing hidden and no surprises. Actual final cost, minus tax is clearly displayed right on the original listing before purchase. We have ZERO control over applicable state tax. We use Stripe the worlds largest and most respected payment processor. They automatically assess the appropriate sales tax depending on the customers residency. This customer was absolutely charged appropriately. Again, we cant help what state taxes are charged. We assume that to be common knowledge.
It is important to note that we delivered to this customer a completely happy and heathy pup just as we promised. With no worries of being scammed or ripped off in a completely safe and secure transaction. Once the customer verifies that she has had all the relevant documents since delivery I hope she will come back and update this review.

Extremely misleading. Would never recommend to anyone!!
Extremely misleading!!! Website said the first available pick up date was 8/9/26. So our entire family planned evrything that way. After we paid, all of a sudden 8/9 became the day of first posiible final vet visit and so the actual pick up date moved to 12th!! Then the breeder did not even make an appointment in advance enough and the actual vet appointment is scheduled for the 12th pushing the pick up date to 15th!!!!!!!! I understand that in the grand scheme of things having the puppy home few days sooner or later makes very little difference but is very rude to make people excited about the arrival of their new puppy and then keep postponing it by either wrong info on their website or negligence on breeder's part as I'm sure they could have planned the Vet visit better and in advance. The entire proccess is extremely overwhelming with millions of emails, requirements and reminders. I would never do this again and I would definitely NOT recommend this to any of my friends.

Robert, we are sorry that you were not happy with the time associated with you being able to pick up your pup. But there wasn't anything intended to be misleading.
You purchased in the afternoon of August 5th, and your travel rep. reached out to you in writing at 7 AM of the 6th. She gave you a brief overview of the travel process and was certainly open to any questions. Your breeder approved the sale and had to schedule a vet appointment like anyone else. Getting an appointment varies by area but most places average a week. Your breeder got into the vet as soon as they could. The vet appointment was on the 13th, the pup was assessed by a USDA licensed vet as completely healthy and you picked the pup up 2 days later on the 15th. This is 10 days later which is very typical. Your signed and initialed contract actually states "Travel mostly occurs within twenty-one days of the Reservation Date of this Agreement. The time frame for travel is an approximation and not a guarantee. The Breeder, in consultation with the Breeder’s veterinarian, determines the Puppy’s travel date, with the Puppy’s health being the primary determining factor."
While we are sorry that our careful process did not allow us to meet your time expectations we are happy that we got you a happy and healthy pup with no worries of scams or hustles, just as promised.
