We had been in contact with Angela regarding the unfortunate circumstances of Benny (Reilly) and are disappointed and sorry for her loss. Angela Rao purchased a Dachshund, was in full communication before the sale, during the sale and after the sale. We educated her on proper puppy ownership including parvo safeguards. Unfortunately, she did not abide by our post-sale Parvo prevention protocols, nor did she abide by the requirement to see a Veterinarian upon delivery. Benny (Reilly) left the breeder with a full head to tail Veterinarian health clearance.
CPV is a highly contagious virus that is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces. In order for Benny (Reilly) to have had Parvo prior to delivery this means he would have been in contact with an infected dog either in his original environment from his littermates, or during transport with the other puppies on the vehicle.
The other part to this is if Benny (Reilly) in fact had Parvo prior to delivery this means the other puppies would have been exposed to this highly contagious virus. We want to be clear that we have conducted an extremely thorough investigation with our contact tracing and no other puppies that traveled with Benny (Reilly) nor that were in his litter contracted Parvo. Not a single one.
We have contacted the breeder who has reached out to her individual buyers that purchased Benny's (Reillys) littermates and confirmed there were NO CASES of Parvo in the remainder of the litter. We have also contacted the transportation company that delivered Benny (Reilly). Angela chose our shared ground transportation option, which means Benny (Reilly) was in a vehicle with other puppies, however each puppy has its own private crate and never in contact with the other puppies. The transportation company contacted all of the buyers that had puppies delivered on the same truck. There were NO CASES of Parvo in any of the other puppies that traveled with Benny (Reilly).
After this thorough investigation we have concluded as an intermediary party that Benny (Reilly) contracted Parvo post delivery under the care of Angela. Please remember this virus can be contracted in many public places. Anywhere that an infected dog could have been, currently is or the feces has been can spread Parvo. This includes the vet clinic floor, parking lots, pet store floors, dog parks, commonly walked areas, etc.
There are a few different reasons why this claim has been denied. We provide several documents at the time of purchase informing our customers that they do have obligations as owners of new puppies. We disclose information on Parvo in these documents and on our phone calls prior to delivery as well. More than anything else we stress on several different occasions that it is mandatory to make a veterinarian appointment within 72 hours of receiving the puppy. The puppy was purchased on 09/13, at the time of purchase as well as on 09/14 and again on 09/16 Angela was informed via email about the 72 hour requirement for the initial vet visit. We have copies of every email sent for every transaction with timestamps. The puppy was received on 09/21 and the information from the documents provided states the veterinarian was not seen for a checkup until 09/25. It was reported without any supported documented evidence that Benny (Reilly) passed away on 09/30/2020. Parvo has an incubation period of 48 hours up to 7 days whereas puppies and their underdeveloped immune systems generally show symptoms within 48-72 hours. Puppies for whom have not received their 4-month Parvo booster unfortunately may be exposed to Parvo and begin to show signs within 48 hours. It is very important new puppy owners take appropriate precautions to protect these precious lives.
Once your payment is approved by the breeder an email is provided with this information. This is also gone over in our Health Guarantee and on multiple phone calls with our staff before delivery. We understand that this is an unfortunate circumstance as we are in close contact with our breeders daily checking on the health and happiness of these puppies. We understand how severe Parvo is and are sure to take all the precautions we know are necessary with new puppies.
We have also asked for a death certificate as well as an autopsy listing the cause of death and have not received either document. Although with these documents, our regulations and protocols still were not abided by Angela.
Please understand that we are here to protect not just customers and breeders but mainly the puppies and this is why we have these documents and regulations in place.
