PowerBlock, Inc. was founded in 1991 by specialty fitness equipment designers who became friends while designing equipment for several companies including Parabody and Cybex. While searching for specific needs in the fitness industry, they were drawn to the large amounts of dumbbells they would encounter in the specialty fitness stores they visited. There had to be a better way of providing fitness enthusiasts with the performance advantage of hand weights without the space and restrictions of old fashioned racks and dumbbells. It was here the idea for PowerBlock was born. After two years of extensive testing, PowerBlock began sales of the newly coined "selectorized dumbbell". Since then, PowerBlock has continued to be the leader in the fitness industry as we constantly strive to out do ourselves in the pursuit of excellence.
PowerBlock (powerblock.com) has 384 customer reviews on Folks Told, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5.

The weight is off -- it is not a 5 pound handle. It is 7.5 pounds, which offsets the entire thing. They are aware of this when you email them and don't seem to care. Also, with the Pro Series it's nearly impossible to do overhead lat extensions which I used to be able to do with the classic set because there's a bar between the bottom of the weight, which they appear to strategically avoid showing you in any of the pictures.

I like how the weights are interchangeable but I think the opening to grab the handle should be much wider. I also think the metal parts should be covered with rubber. When I do exercises that require one dumbell and you switch from one hand to the other, I cannot get my hand inside to grab the handle to switich hands and have cut my hand 3 times. I try grabbing the outside but hurts my hand holding onto all the metal bars.

Good morning, We are sorry to hear that you have experienced difficulties in using your set. If you are looking for a more open handle cavity, you may be interested in our new Sport EXP set. This model has almost 2 more inches of room than our other sets. If you are looking for a rubber-covered dumbbell system, then you may be interested in our Urethane Series (U70 or the U90 Sets). The plates are covered in a Polyurethane coating. This allows for smoother and quieter use, as well as increased the durability of the product. However, we would not recommend gripping the metal rails. If it is an exercise that requires two hands on one dumbbell, we recommend that two dumbbells be used and set at smaller weights, but with a combined weight equal to the desired amount. Feel free to contact us at [email protected], if you would be interested in a different set.

The stand I bought was bent at the top. It appears it was damaged shipping. In addition, the urethane blocks have a terrible time adjusting the wait. It takes a ton of effort and multiple attempts to try and get the urethane clips connected to the weight I want.

I ordered the U-33s on Nov. 16. Everything is automated so the withdrawal from your account is automated and so is the order acceptance email. Even this review is requested by automation. What is not automated is actual delivery. They took money from my account on Nov. 16 but somewhere from the ordering process and the actual packaging for delivery process, my order got lost. I finally called them today before writing this review and after confirming what date money was withdrawn from my account. I figured there would've been some delay with the Thanksgiving holiday since it's been more than 10 days since I ordered the product, but nope, based on what the customer service rep said, they just forgot about it. The order got lost. So, they said they would "expedite" the process, meaning they would hand-deliver the order from purchasing straight to the shipping department but I'm still waiting for the delivery notice. It might be 10 more days before they finally deliver my weights. So, this has not been the greatest experience. It might be better just to buy weights in the store. The online purchase and the customer service left a lot of doubt in my mind whether this was a good purchase. If you order online, call immediately to confirm they received the order or just go to the store to buy it. Better yet, buy some other product. I may request a refund, depending on how the rest of my experience goes. I'm hoping to get the U-33s before Christmas at this rate. I'll update this review once I receive them.
